It is a very interesting to talk about freedom in China. You have leading liberal thinkers in China calling for an end to the many injustices and human rights violations that occur under the current communist regime. One has only to visit ninecommentaries.com and read just a little bit of what is written there to realize that there are real problems in China that must be dealt with.
This is the most populous nation in the world and it is having these terrible injustices occur wherein innocent and even very productive members of society are being tortured and beaten for something as simple as saying ‘democracy is good’ or Falun Dafa is good ( a peaceful meditation group ). Christians and muslims are also persecuted. In fact, any large group of people with any ideology other than the CCP’s brand of ideology is probably going to be persecuted.
There has been plenty of news about the persecution of human rights lawyers in China in recent years too. Just dare to do the right thing and they will be after you quickly.
When you have such a destructive system of government, what can you do to change it? There has to be a way. What do you think?
People Are Afraid
The Chinese Communist Party or CCP controls all of China. They would like to control Taiwan as well, but that is another story.
One of the problems in China is that there is a strict system that enforces control.
Part of that system is a network of over 300 forced labor camps (last time I heard). They are referred to as ‘reeducation through forced labor’. In Chinese they are called “Laogai”.
Most people in other countries never hear about this labor camps and therefore, they are completely ignorant of the fact that they exist.
In China, you don’t even need a court hearing to send you to a labor camp for up to three years.
Instead, your local police office can do so.
People are forced to work, sometimes as much as 20 hours per day. They are given very poor quality and quantities of food. Therefore, people often die.
People in China are afraid to speak out against their government.
They cannot organize because large groups are quickly ‘crushed’ by state forces.
The Chinese Communist Party has been evil since the beginning. There have been many ‘revolutions’ and ‘purgings’ in China. They had one against land owners first, most of them fled to Taiwan. The CCP took over their land holdings (how convenient).
Then there was a purging of intellectuals. The so called “Great Cultural Revolution”.
You see, the CCP is not just interested in controlling resources. They want to control minds as well. And they will do what it takes to achieve that goal.
Remember the Tienanmen Massacre in 1989? If you saw the footage of people being crushed by tanks (or pictures of them afterwards) it is something you will never forget.
Those (mostly) University Students were simply speaking out and longing for a Representative form of government. With a single party system and no elections, that is not very likely to happen.
The ‘leader’s of the country did not dare allow these students to demand any form of fair representation – what would other’s think if they let that happen?
Therefore, they crushed the protestors with tanks.
Nothing Has Changed
Persecution of various groups continues in China today. You can visit https://faluninfo.net to read just one set of examples. Everyone is also aware of the persecution of Tibetan Buddhists by the CCP as well.
I would like to hear what you have to say about this.
Will China Every Be Free?
Any chance for situation in China to get better? What would it take to make that happen?
How would you fell if someone from your family was thrown in a labor camp and perhaps died there just because they dared to talk about the words “freedom” or “human rights”?
