It would be really great for employees to see things through the eyes of their employer for a little while. Every company needs to generate revenue and if an employee is not generating enough revenue and/ cost savings or support value to more than cover the cost of their own employment, it only makes sense for a company to let the employee go.
Particularly when people are younger, they do not seem to take this basic economic principle seriously. But it is serious. A company needs to generate revenue to pay for all of its expenses (which includes the cost of employees) + make a profit.
Unfortunately, many employees do not get this fact. It seems the problems may be exacerbated in more socialized countries where workers may feel they are ‘entitled’ to something.
In some ways, this is very destructive to a countries productivity, because what is that productivity if it is not the sum total of employee labor? Therefore, countries where workers feel it is ok to slack off or ‘take it easy’, or even worse, avoid doing real work, are going to fall behind the economic power of countries where employees are happy to have a job and are willing to work hard to keep it. It is inevitable. The country with the greatest work ethic – all other things being equal – is likely to dominate.
