Allergies Can Be Miserable
Some relatives have allergies to various things.
I am very lucky, Even at the age of 44, I have yet to develop an allergy to anything I am aware of.
And that is very fortunate.
It is sad that many people have to suffer with the constant sneezing or hives or congestion that come from allergies. Do you know anyone like that?
Allergies Can Be Dangerous
An acquaintance from work had an allergy to peanuts.
Have you ever seen the warnings on food packages about peanuts? They say something like, this package was processed in a facility that also processes tree nuts, peanuts, etc.
Do you know why that is so important? These kind of allergies can be deadly to some people.
This co-worker had to carry around a syringe to inject herself with in case she accidentally ate one of the foods that would put her into a state of shock.
The throat can swell to the point of causing suffocation. These reactions can come on very fast at times.
Usually Not That Serious – But Really Annoying
Allergies are usually not as serious as the example above, but they can get quite bad. They can cause a lot of suffering too.
If you have a story to share about your allergies and the torment they have caused you, please leave a comment below.
Medications Are Not So Nice Either
Most prescription medications come with a list of side effects. It is always to your benefit to ask your pharmacist for the full list so that you will know what to look out for.
Some of the annoying side effects can include:
Sleepiness – Obviously a problem and even more so if you have to compensate with heavy doses of caffeine
Low Libido – Most people would prefer to avoid this.
Increased Appetite – Not good if you are trying to watch your weight!
A Change in Taste and Smell – Something that used to taste or smell pleasant can suddenly be on the unpleasant side!
Medications with Steroids – These, when used long term can have some health consequences like osteoporosis
Infertility – This has not been definitively confirmed but some experts suspect it may be the case
Anxiety – While some meds can make you more sleepy, some can amp you up to the point where you drank way too much coffee – even if you haven’t had a single cup!
Cognitive Function – Have you wondered why you suddenly have problems concentrating at work or school? Some meds can have that side effect.
Sadness – If a person is prone to depression, some medications can enhance the problem.
Note: This is a very small and partial list of the total possible side effects from allergy meds. It is just put in general terms. If you have questions about your unique situation, be sure to ask your doctor for the answers to those questions.
Pharmacists will generally provide you with an often surprisingly long list of side effects for any medication when asked.
Just Plain Miserable
I certainly would not want the experience of suffering from allergies. Life is hard enough as it is. I couldn’t image needing to constantly take medications, sneezing, coughing, experiencing skin irritations etc. The list of allergy symptoms can be quite large.
Some of those symptoms include:
And then there are the more severe forms of symptoms that we won’t go into here. As I mentioned before, allergies can be life threatening at times.
In any case, the basic, non life threatening allergies can make one quite miserable.
