Why Is There So Much Suffering In The World?

September 8, 2016 by Dave

Any reasonable person could ask this question.

If you are tired of getting answers that leave you feeling incomplete and unsatisfied, I can point you to a source.

In my opinion the most thorough and complete explanation that I’ve been able to find anywhere on this question is contained in the book Zhuan Falun.

You can read it for free at https://FalunDafa.org

Wondering What Life Is About?

June 6, 2016 by Dave

This is a question that people have asked for ages along with similar ones such as:

“Why am I here?”

“what is the purpose of life”

“What is the purpose of MY life”

“Who Am I, Really?”

“Is this all there is to life?”

“Why do I feel so strange?”

“Why do I feel that something isn’t quite right?”

Any of these kinds of questions, in my opinion, represents that little feeling we have in the back of our minds.

We know that there is more to life than what is in front of us.

It’s possible that you feel all alone with these questions.   You might even be somewhat hesitant to bring them up to your friends or family for fear that they might think of you as ‘strange’.  Maybe they will tell you to ‘get over it’.

However, I do not think you are alone.  I believe that nearly every human being alive asks this kind of question to himself at least once-in-a while. Others just may not want to admit it to you in casual conversation.  It’s hard to find people who want to discuss such philosophical questions.  But, that does not mean that people don’t think about these questions in their own way.

If I could steer you in one single direction to begin trying to understand the answers to these questions, I would tell you to read the book: Zhuan Falun.  You can download a free copy at https://FalunDafa.org    (no email address required)

Look up at the sky at night.  Have you noticed how many stars are out there?

Scientists say there are somewhere between 200 to 400 BILLION stars in this galaxy (The Milky Way Galaxy) alone.

They believe there are at least 100 billion galaxies beyond that.

In other words, we live on a very, very small rock.

So, what is the purpose of the rest of all those stars being out there?

Global Warming: Fact or Fiction – What Do YOU Say?

January 4, 2010 by Dave

IMG 0340There appears to be quite a bit of debate about the phenomenon known as ‘global warming’. Does it exist or does it not exist?

As in many great debates there appears to be multiple opinions about the issue. A few years ago, Al Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize for his work (film) on global warming. Yet, many scientists have come out to say there is no evidence of global warming. In fact, the prestigious NASA, with its vast array of intellectual capital and high caliber scientists seems to be saying there is no evidence of it.

Then the scandal broke. A flurry of emails were ‘stolen’ and made public. The emails seemed to indicate that someone or some group of people is trying very hard to make a real scientific case for global warming. The emails seemed to show that they were overreaching the normal parameters of real science to come to their ‘conclusion’ and convince others too.

Some people today are too young to remember, including myself, but it has been said that thirty years ago, we were being told that we were headed for an ice age. Now, suddenly we have been alerted that the polar caps are melting, that sea levels will rise and that there will be resultant disaster – unless we spend a lot of money to fix the problem now.

Those watching the debate say that ‘fixing’ the problem means sending an awful lot of money to third world countries. Meanwhile, some of the bigger industrialized countries talk about curbing their emissions, but do not actually appear to be willing to do so. Seems that those countries are not fully convinced that global warming exists or is a problem. If they were convinced, would they not get busy solving the problem?

There appears to be doubt. For the proponents of the global warming phenomenon, it does appear that providing some very definitive proof would benefit them in getting these ‘hold out’ nations to take action.

I am not taking sides within this article. However, I know that there are many people who are very passionate about their position on global warming. You tell me. Is global warming a real phenomenon or not? Why do you think that it is or is not?

Are We Connected Or Isolated…?

November 15, 2009 by Dave

Connected - picture of connected hexagons representing human connectednessI overheard an interesting conversation the other day. The woman that was talking to another said that she believes we are all ‘connected’.

After thinking it over for a bit, a few questions came to mind.

If we are all connected then why do people feel lonely at times? One would presume that if we were all connected that it would be impossible to feel isolated or lonely.

Another thought is that if we are all connected why do we have so much trouble understanding each other?

Why do people miscommunicate so often? This doesn’t require much explanation because frankly, everyone has experienced the effect of misunderstandings in even the most basic of human communication.

Why are there wars? If we were so wonderfully connected there shouldn’t be any warfare. Any issues that come up would be rapidly solved by the innate understanding that should come from being connected.

Why is there so much diversity in our various belief systems and backgrounds. Let us face it, many cultures are almost diametrically opposed. One cultures ‘normal’ idea is another’s radical thought. This is similar to freedom fighters and terrorism. What one man calls a terrorist, another man will call a freedom fighter. This is living proof that our perceptions and beliefs are radically different from each other.

What some people call evil, others call good. How can this be? If something is bad or evil, it just is so. Why would someone else call it good?

With so many different ways of thinking, so many different beliefs, so many different value systems and all the variations of human thinking – how could we be all ‘connected’.

Any thoughts on this question?   Comment below.
