Due to a situation that came up this weekend, I was forced to make a realization. What I discovered or perhaps rediscovered is that anger and negative emotions are the enemy of all people. Nothing is solved well through negative emotions. It may feel particularly difficult to respond with kindness when someone has wronged you or caused you harm, but it is the only response that can create positive outcomes. Responding with anger just doesn’t work well and sometimes not at all. It will be a challenge and require constant vigilance to respond to others with kindness, even when wronged by them. But I am convinced that my growth is limited by allowing such negative things to dominate my reactions to others. I hope that I will do better in the future.

It’s that time of the year where you think about what things you are thankful for. And like every other year, when I get asked about it, I round up all the “usual suspects”: good health for me and the family, being able to provide for them, good friends and their support, etc. But where most of the people actually enjoy Thanksgiving, I always felt somehow strange right around it. This holiday, for me at least, marks the near passing of another year, and this always makes me remember my unfulfilled goals. And as I get older, it somehow gets stranger. Let me paint you a picture and explain what I’m talking about.
As I walked through the shopping mall, I saw this kid with his mom and dad, staring at a new video game. And just to stop you right there, I am not a grumpy old man that thinks kids these days are glued to computers and video games. You know the type: back in my days… No! Let me be completely honest here: I was just the same when I was a kid, except, I was glued to a TV. I watched hours and hours of television daily and seen thousands of different shows and programs. But none of them was quite like this one show: KNIGHT RIDER. For you, younger kids, google it and check it out. It might look silly to you now, but back in my day (OK maybe I am that guy), that was the best show on television. It had everything: A cool car, a lot of action, cool gadgets, and David Hasselhoff. I was fascinated by everything in that show, but most of all by the fact that there was a talking car in it! It was incredible, and for me personally, way better than James Bond or any other superhero in the world. KITT (that was the cars name) was my superhero.
Now comes the question: what is it about this story that makes me sad around Thanksgiving and Christmas? Well, it’s quite simple. Every time after I watched an episode of Knight Rider, I promised myself:
“One day I will have my own KITT.”
And when I got old enough to realize that the show has almost nothing to do with reality, I shifted that desire and rephrased that promise:
“I will own a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.”
Ultimately, I grew up and realized that Trans Am is not a very good car. I stopped making promises to myself altogether and moved on. But every time around Thanksgiving and the holiday season in general, I remember the promises. This year I decided to act on it and did some research. It turns out, the Trans Am is still a bad car and the KITT hasn’t been invented yet. But I found the next best thing!
I fully understand that this is not even close to what KITT really was, at least to me, but then again, I honestly don’t care. I got myself this charger and guess what: I still smile every time I get behind the wheel of my car. And you know what, it is the best feeling in the world. I will guarantee you that if you were the fan of Knight Rider, you will find it amusing as well! It looks and sounds to par and you would think that I would get tired of pressing that button up top and hearing that voice, but you would be wrong. This is probably the best gift I could have got for myself, ever! The thing is, there are only a couple of these bad boys left in the storage and if I were you, I would hurry up before they run out.
This is truly something new to be thankful for this year!

You can take action, right now, against the Chinese Communists practice of forced organ harvesting against prisoners of conscience.
This petition is sponsored by Doctors Against Force Organ Harvesting.

I highly recommend that you do sign it. This is a chance to make the world a better place and show your support against such horrific human rights abuses.
Speaking in public is a skill that can be developed.
However, let’s say you haven’t taken the time to develop that skill and yet you MUST speak in public suddenly.
I have some advice based on experience and what my high school English teacher taught me.
She said that the most powerful speeches are those that come from the heart. In other words, if you are passionate about something, then just speak plainly and from the heart. One heart to many. You have something to say, so say it. If you are not a polished public speaker, this really works.
On the other hand, if you have more time and you are not facing a situation where you must develop a speech quickly, this book might be helpful to you.
It’s called. Speak With Confidence: A Practical Guide.
You can read the full CNN article here:
The article discusses how ‘light pollution’ prevents most of the world from seeing what our grandparents could once see – a much better and more spectacular view of the Milky Way Galaxy (from our corner).
It goes on to talk about how at least once study has demonstrated the damage that this artificial light can do to our human physiology. Apparently, it may prevent us from producing enough Melatonin and may also cause us to produce too much cortisone (and the adverse affects associated with that).
It’s interesting how technology and ‘progress’ are altering the world we live in. Yet, the universe out there beyond us is quite a bit older than our little Earth. I find it much more interesting to ponder what is out there and what is going on out there. It’s a vast, immense space, and I’m quite sure there are other civilizations and lives out there.
Yet, this isn’t something that people talk about. We are consumed by our little lives here and the things we pursue. How many of us routinely wonder if we SHOULD be pursuing the things we do.
In the human race’s vast pursuit of various things, we may have left a few things behind that we would do well to remember. Basic goodness comes to mind.
When I watch the intrigues, tricks and fighting of today’s political parties and individuals, it doesn’t make me feel good.
Beyond that, the basic way people treat each other in every day life is also horrendous. It scares me, quite frankly. It’s ugly. People cheat each other for whatever they think they can get.
The tricks are hidden. They are not out in the open. But is the end result, almost the same as physical violence? Someone takes and someone loses.
I can’t help but thinking that one of those more advanced civilizations out there in this vast universe has it figured out in a way that we can only dream of.
Our society is almost ruthless.

PS: I always recommend the book Zhuan Falun which is available for free download at https://FalunDafa.org – Likely the very best book I can recommend to you.
I challenge you to do something that very few people in this world ever do.
Here is the challenge. Before you go to bed at night, spend 15 minutes reflecting on the day.
Reflect on your interactions with people. I challenge you to specifically look for places where you could have been kinder and gentler to someone. Look for places were you could reduce your selfishness and be more giving.
Look for places where you judged someone too harshly or even incorrectly. Start to adjust your mindset, your attitude and your way of being with other people.
If you can do this every day, your entire world will change… It will expand and grow. Try it…
Let me know what happens.
