The Drawbacks and Limitations To Being Human…

In this human world we have a couple of major drawbacks.

One is that we don’t know what we don’t know.

Another  is that we don’t know how much we don’t know.

Another is that everything is driven by the desire for profit causing people to do and say things that are very questionable

Another  is that integrity doesn’t matter to most people (of course, they will say it does, especially when it will help them profit)

Another is that we are very limited, as humans, in our perception

Another is that the human psyche is great at rationalizing everything including our evil behaviors.

Another is, ….

It goes on and on.  We are screwed by the mere fact that we are extremely limited in both awareness and ability to come to real conclusions  – of course the former is a major limiting factor in the later.

Not entirely, there is hope. but each person has to be willing to change himself from within.

A superb book on this topic, in my opinion, is Zhuan Falun.

Hi Dave, I must say, while you will find those that do what you described on a regular basis pretty much anywhere you look, it all seems a little pessimistic to me. There are people that would sell their own mother down the road for a few bucks but there are also many people that still maintain high integrity in everything they do. If you find that the people surrounding you are all running the wrong way…it’s time to change your friends.

Hi Gene, I looked at your blog, it is very nice. Thanks for sharing that. Yes, perhaps it is pessimistic. However, I have never been one to be honest about our limitations and what being a human being is. I don’t want to forget the ‘dark side’ even if I enjoy the ‘light side’. Because humans are capable of good – but we must never forget that they are capable of great evil as well.

I am sure I’m not the only person who wishes to use more of the brain’s capacity. It is a known fact that humans use only a small percentage of their brain’s capacity. Scientists all over the world try to access these unknown areas of the mind. But do we really want to uncover the dark secrets that lay within these untapped recesses? Will our incessant quest for self discovery ultimately lead to our undoing?

That’s the thing about life. And I’m glad you bring this up in this article. We are fallible and so we should not take ourselves too seriously. Sooner or later, we will mess up and quite possibly in a really bad way. And when that comes to pass (as it will, sooner or later), we should laugh about it and try to learn from our mistakes as best we can. To beat yourself up about it won’t change history.

The main drawback to being human is the greed that is for sure and the fact that people will stab you in the back to make a little profit. People don’t care about each other anymore. And they will turn on you in a heart beat. If you have good loyal friends then make sure you keep them close.
