Colors play such a dramatic role in our daily life, but the strange thing is that we rarely give them a second thought. Seldom do you stop and think that maybe you are feeling sad because your room is so dark, or that you are happy because the walls are painted a cheerful yellow. The truth is, colors can sometimes blend into the background of our daily lives, but whether you know it or not, they play a very important role.
When you are looking at colors, it’s important to remember that everyone is affected by colors differently. How you react to certain hues will depend on your age, sex, and ethnic background among other things. However, there are some general guidelines that you can use when it comes to color.
Blue- Is often thought of as a calming, relaxing color. Blue is often chosen for bedrooms or bathrooms because of it’s calming effect. Studies have shown that it will reduce blood pressure and promote serenity.
Red – Has been shown to increase blood pressure, can cause an angry or violent reaction. Red is also the color of passion and can stimulate romance. Perfect for causing excitement and creating a dramatic effect. It can be a good choice for larger rooms used for entertaining.
Yellow – Often thought of as a happy, cheerful color. Perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. Yellow is widely thought of as an uplifting color, but as the main color palate, it has been found to create feelings of frustration and can tire the eyes.
Green – Combines the qualities of blue and yellow to create a very calm and cheerful color. This is a great choice for a bedroom or family room where you want to create comfort and warmth. An excellent choice for the main color palate.
Before you even look at colors, you should try to determine what type of mood you are trying to create in your home or room. And keep in mind that you do not have to be a slave to whatever the fashionable colors are this season if you are choosing colors for your own home. It is far more important that the colors you select speak to you and evoke the appropriate response in you and your family. Experiment a little bit, until you create the mood that you are trying to achieve. If however, you are choosing colors for a home or property to be sold—you absolutely MUST know what colors are in vogue for the season, neighborhood and customer. A personal color choice may just turn someone off completely that would have otherwise fallen head over heals in love with the property.
